Day 1 // Matthew 5:21-30
Sin has a way of starting in our minds. Jesus teaches that anger and lust are intolerable, even just as thoughts. What thoughts do you need to fight to keep from sinning? Read and pray over Philippians 4:8.
Day 2 // Matthew 5:31-48
Jesus’ teaching about revenge is counter-cultural. How can you show mercy to someone who has offended you recently?
Day 3 // Matthew 6:1-6
Give today. Give anonymously or quietly to someone in need. Pray for a humble heart.
Day 4 // Psalm 19
The teachings that we’ve been reading in Matthew expand our knowledge of God’s laws and remind us that following Him goes beyond a checklist of right and wrong. We need to have hearts focused on God.
David wrote Psalm 19 to refocus on the Word of God – His decrees, laws, and precepts. Read this Psalm slowly and reflect on how you can stay in touch with God’s Word, Old Testament and New.
Day 5 // Matthew 6:7-18
The Lord’s Prayer can be broken down into the acronym “ACTS”:
Adoration: Give God praise and honor for who he is as Lord over all.
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Confession: Honestly deal with the sin in your prayer life.
And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.
Thanksgiving: Verbalize what you’re grateful for in your life and in the world around you.
… for yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever.
Supplication: Pray for the needs of others and yourself.
Give us today our daily bread… And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.
Pray your own prayer using the ACTS method. Write it out.
